Château Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac 1 2021

Château Lafite-Rothschild 2021 is a classic Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates and one of the Médoc’s five First Growths, classified in 1855. The vintage combines Lafite’s hallmark elegance and precision with vibrant freshness, polished tannins and the structure needed for extended cellaring.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep red colour. Its nose is fresh and refined, bringing together aromas of ripe red and dark fruit with subtle, elegant toasted notes from oak ageing. On the palate, it is powerful yet beautifully balanced, with lively acidity, velvety tannins and a long, composed finish. The 2021 vintage’s freshness gives the wine energy and definition, while its structure promises considerable ageing potential. It can be enjoyed after careful decanting in its youth, but should develop greater complexity, finesse and aromatic depth over the next several decades under proper cellar conditions.

Production
The vineyards of Pauillac are known for their gravelly soils, which provide excellent drainage and help the vines achieve gradual, even ripening. Grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand before being fermented at controlled temperatures, with regular pumping over to extract colour, aroma and structure. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 15 months in new French oak barrels, adding polished spice and toast while preserving the fruit’s freshness and precision.

Food & Serving
This structured Pauillac is an excellent match for roast lamb, beef fillet, venison and other richly flavoured red meats. It also pairs well with dishes featuring mushrooms, truffles or mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for around two to three hours when drinking young to allow the wine to open; older bottles should be decanted more gently and only shortly before serving, if at all.
