Château Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac 1 2017

Château Lafite-Rothschild 2017 is a classic Pauillac red from one of Bordeaux’s most revered estates and one of the five original First Growths classified in 1855. The wine combines the château’s renowned precision and elegance with the depth, structure and longevity expected from a great Médoc wine.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep, dark colour. Its nose is initially reserved and gradually reveals refined notes of cedar, fresh mint and subtle dark-fruit character. On the palate, it is intense and vibrant, offering considerable power while remaining beautifully controlled. Fine tannins, freshness and concentration come together in a harmonious, balanced finish that reflects Lafite-Rothschild’s signature finesse. Although approachable with decanting, the 2017 vintage has the structure and balance to develop gracefully over many years. With proper cellaring, it should gain further complexity and aromatic depth through the 2030s and beyond.

Production
The grapes come from Château Lafite-Rothschild’s prestigious Pauillac vineyards, where well-drained gravel soils over clay and limestone help encourage deep rooting and naturally concentrated fruit. Grapes are carefully selected before fermentation at controlled temperatures, with regular pump-overs to extract colour, aroma and structure. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine is matured for 15 months in new French oak barrels, allowing the oak to integrate with the wine’s fruit, freshness and tannic framework.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for premium dishes such as roast or grilled beef, rack of lamb, venison and slow-cooked red meats. It also works well with truffle-seasoned dishes, mature hard cheeses and classic French cuisine. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for around 1–2 hours when drinking now to allow the reserved aromas to open; older bottles should be decanted carefully and briefly to remove any sediment without over-aerating the wine.
