As a “little brother” to Lafite, it carries real pedigree and impressive aging potential.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep, polished colour with the kind of understated concentration you expect from a top Pauillac. On the nose, it opens with classic Lafite-style aromas of black cherry, cassis, and finely grained cedar, lifted by hints of pencil shavings, tobacco leaf, and sweet spice from oak aging. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, with ripe dark fruit wrapped in supple tannins and a precise, elegant line of acidity. It feels pure and graceful rather than forceful, finishing with mineral freshness and a lingering savory depth. While already very rewarding to drink, the 2000 vintage still has the structure to continue developing complexity over many years.

Production
Carruades de Lafite comes from the Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux’s Médoc, where gravelly soils help Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines achieve their trademark structure and finesse. The estate practices meticulous vineyard work, including strict yield control and manual harvesting, with fruit selected to reflect the character and standards of the Lafite style. Aging takes place in French oak, with a modest proportion of new barrels, allowing the wine to gain subtle spice and texture without losing its purity.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for classic red-wine dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or game with a rich sauce. It also pairs well with hard aged cheeses and truffle-driven dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for about 1–2 hours if drinking now, especially if the bottle has been resting for a long time.
