Description

Château Labégorce 2023 is an elegant Margaux red from one of the appellation’s historic estates, offering a refined balance of ripe fruit, freshness and polished structure. Classified as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, it reflects the château’s modern renaissance while remaining true to the graceful, silky style for which Margaux is renowned. The estate’s origins date back to the 14th century, giving this contemporary release a strong sense of place and heritage.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby colour with attractive violet nuances. Its refined bouquet opens with blackcurrant, cassis, ripe plum and cherry, followed by delicate notes of violets, cedar, graphite and subtle spice from French oak ageing. On the palate, it begins silkily, revealing concentrated red and black fruit alongside fine-grained tannins and lively freshness. The finish is long, harmonious and elegant, with the balance and finesse characteristic of classic Margaux. It can be enjoyed young with decanting, while its structure and freshness should allow it to develop additional complexity over the medium to long term.

Production
Château Labégorce farms approximately 70 hectares of vineyards in Margaux, with parcels directly neighbouring renowned estates including Château Margaux and Château Lascombes. The grapes are harvested parcel by parcel to preserve the individual character of each terroir, then undergo temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation. The wine is matured for 12 to 14 months in French oak barriques, approximately 40–50% of which are new, adding layers of cedar, spice and texture without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
A refined match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, veal, duck breast and game birds, as well as dishes featuring mushrooms, truffles or gently seasoned sauces. Serve at 16–18°C. Decant for around 30–60 minutes before serving, particularly when enjoying the wine in its youth, to allow its fruit, floral notes and polished tannins to open fully.

Producer
Château Labégorce is a historic Margaux estate with roots reaching back to the 14th century. Since its acquisition by the Perrodo family in 1989, the château has undergone a comprehensive renewal, including major investment in both the vineyards and the winery. Today, the approximately 70-hectare estate is recognised for producing elegant, terroir-driven Margaux wines in which fruit, structure and finesse take centre stage. Its parcel-by-parcel approach and careful oak maturation support the château’s reputation for combining classical regional character with modern precision.
