Description

Château Labégorce Margaux CBE 2021 is a refined Left Bank red from one of the Médoc’s most prestigious appellations. Classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, it combines Margaux’s characteristic elegance and aromatic finesse with the structure expected from Cabernet-led Bordeaux. The estate has a long history dating back several centuries and is recognised as one of the notable properties in the Margaux appellation.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby colour with youthful purple highlights. Its nose is expressive and layered, offering aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum alongside violet, cedar, graphite and subtle spice. On the palate, the 2021 vintage shows a poised, medium-bodied profile, with fresh acidity, polished tannins and concentrated dark-fruit flavours. Hints of tobacco, cocoa and earthy minerality add complexity through the finish. This is an elegant vintage rather than an overtly powerful one, with freshness providing balance and lift. It can be enjoyed now after decanting, while its tannic structure and concentration should allow it to develop further over the next 8–12 years, depending on storage conditions.

Production
The vineyards lie on the gravelly soils typical of Margaux, which provide good drainage and help the vines produce naturally concentrated, perfumed fruit. The blend is based on the traditional Médoc varieties, led by Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by Merlot, with smaller proportions of other permitted Bordeaux grapes depending on the vintage. Grapes are carefully selected at harvest, then fermented parcel by parcel before maturation in oak, allowing the wine to develop texture and complexity while preserving the freshness of the 2021 vintage.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C, ideally after allowing the bottle to breathe. A decant of around 60–90 minutes is recommended when enjoying the wine young; older bottles should be decanted more gently and mainly to remove any sediment. Its combination of fruit, freshness and fine tannins makes it an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, venison, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses.

Producer
Château Labégorce is a historic estate in the Margaux appellation, with roots reaching back to the 18th century. The property benefits from a varied vineyard and a location among the gravelly terroirs for which Margaux is renowned. Its Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel status reflects the estate’s quality and consistency, while its wines are valued for combining the floral elegance and silky texture associated with Margaux with the depth and ageability of classic Médoc Bordeaux.
