Description
Château La Tour Carnet 2019 is a classic Haut-Médoc red from one of the Médoc’s historic estates, recognised as a Quatrième Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification. The vintage combines the structure and freshness associated with Cabernet-led Bordeaux with the generous, polished character of a warm, successful growing season.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in appearance, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, complemented by violet, cedar, tobacco and subtle spice. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with concentrated dark-fruit flavours, well-integrated oak and firm yet refined tannins. Fresh acidity brings balance and length, while bottle ageing should allow the fruit, tannins and savoury nuances to develop further over the next decade or more.
Production
The vineyards of Château La Tour Carnet are situated in the Haut-Médoc, where gravelly soils over clay contribute drainage, warmth and the structure needed for long-lived red wines. Grapes are carefully selected and harvested at optimum maturity before being traditionally fermented and matured in oak, allowing the wine to develop greater complexity while preserving the freshness and character of the vintage.
Food & Serving
Enjoy this Bordeaux with roast beef, lamb, beef tenderloin, duck or richly flavoured mushroom dishes. It also pairs well with mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C; decant for 30–60 minutes when drinking young to soften the tannins and open the aromas, while older bottles should be handled gently and decanted primarily to separate any sediment.
Producer
Château La Tour Carnet is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc, centred around a distinctive medieval château tower. Its inclusion as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 Classification reflects its long-standing reputation, and the estate remains an important reference point for Haut-Médoc wines, combining historic character with a modern focus on vineyard precision and quality.
