Description

Chateau La Rose Figeac 2018 is a refined red Bordeaux that captures the plush, velvety character Pomerol is so loved for. Crafted from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this vintage offers a harmonious balance of ripe fruit, floral elegance and supple structure. Its small-estate origins and careful, hands-on winemaking make it a standout choice for those seeking authentic Right Bank charm with a modern, polished touch.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2018 Chateau La Rose Figeac shows a deep ruby to garnet hue with a vivid, almost glossy intensity at the core. The nose opens with ripe black cherries and plums, followed by notes of violet, graphite, and a hint of cocoa and sweet spice from well-judged oak. On the palate, this is smooth and medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins wrapped around layers of dark berry fruit, redcurrant and a subtle herbal lift from the Cabernet Franc. The mid-palate is generous yet poised, with good freshness that keeps the wine lively rather than heavy. A long, elegant finish reveals nuances of cedar, mocha and a faint mineral edge. Enjoyable now with a short decant, it has the structure and balance to evolve gracefully for 8–12 years from vintage, gaining further complexity and softness.

Production
Chateau La Rose Figeac sits on classic Pomerol terroir, where gravel, clay and sand over an iron-rich subsoil help Merlot achieve depth and plushness, while Cabernet Franc adds aromatic precision. Grapes are typically harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, to ensure only perfectly ripe bunches make it into the cellar. Vinification is carried out in small, temperature-controlled vats to allow gentle extraction of color, tannin and aroma, followed by maturation in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, to bring finesse, structure and discreet spice without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
Chateau La Rose Figeac 2018 pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast or veal, as well as richer poultry dishes and truffle-infused cuisine. It also works well with aged hard cheeses and mushroom-based recipes, which echo its earthy and savory notes. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) for optimal expression. A 45–60 minute decant is recommended in its youth to open up the bouquet and soften the tannins, while mature bottles may need only a gentle splash decant to remove any sediment.
