Description

Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2020 is a distinguished Grand Cru Classé de Graves from Pessac-Léognan, produced on one of Bordeaux’s most historic vineyards. Renowned for combining the power and structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Merlot, this vintage offers exceptional depth, precision and long-term ageing potential.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-purple in appearance, the wine opens with an expressive nose of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum and violet, complemented by notes of graphite, cigar box, cedar and subtle smoky spice. With air, its layered aromatic profile reveals further complexity and the refined character associated with La Mission Haut-Brion. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, yet remarkably polished, with ripe dark fruit, firm but finely textured tannins and well-integrated acidity. Mineral notes, dark chocolate and savoury spice add depth to the long, persistent finish. While already impressive, the 2020 vintage will benefit from extended cellaring and should develop beautifully over the next two to three decades, or longer under excellent storage conditions.

Production
The vineyards lie on the gravelly terraces of Pessac-Léognan, where Günzian gravel soils provide excellent drainage and promote depth, concentration and mineral character, while underlying clay contributes freshness and structure. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before being vinified parcel by parcel, allowing the different varieties and vineyard sites to be handled with precision. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, followed by maturation in French oak barrels, with a carefully balanced proportion of new oak.

Food & Serving
A classic partner for richly flavoured dishes such as roast or grilled beef, lamb, venison and duck, as well as truffle dishes, mushroom pâté and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for two to three hours when drinking young to open the wine’s aromas and soften its youthful structure; older bottles should be decanted more gently and briefly, primarily to remove any sediment.

Producer
Château La Mission Haut-Brion has a long and distinctive history dating back to the 16th century, when the estate was associated with the Lazarist missionaries who established the vineyard. Today, it forms part of the Domaine Clarence Dillon portfolio alongside Château Haut-Brion and Château Quintus. Classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves, La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the leading estates of Pessac-Léognan and is celebrated for producing powerful, age-worthy wines with remarkable elegance and complexity.
