Description
Château La Louvière’s 2007 white is an elegant, mature expression of Pessac-Léognan, combining the appellation’s Graves character with the refinement of carefully managed oak ageing. Long recognised for its white wines, the château produces a dry Bordeaux that showcases Sauvignon Blanc’s aromatic energy without becoming overly assertive.
Tasting Notes
Bright pale yellow with delicate green highlights, this wine opens with intense yet polished aromas of citrus and tropical fruit, followed by hints of grapefruit, white peach and apricot. Subtle smoky oak adds complexity without overshadowing the fruit, while the Graves terroir brings a distinctive mineral and savoury edge.
The palate is soft, rich and beautifully balanced, with refreshing acidity and a long, persistent finish. Mature and harmonious in the 2007 vintage, it is drinking well now, while carefully stored bottles may continue to develop additional savoury and honeyed nuances in the short term.
Production
Sourced from the gravelly soils of Graves in Pessac-Léognan, the wine reflects a terroir well suited to producing structured, age-worthy white Bordeaux. It was fermented and matured for 10 months in oak barrels, 30% of which were new, with bâtonnage during the ageing period. This combination lends texture and smoky complexity while preserving the wine’s freshness and citrus-led character.
Food & Serving
A natural partner for grilled redfish, roasted turbot and poultry, it also works beautifully with shellfish, creamy fish dishes and lightly seasoned white meats. Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, but 15–30 minutes in a carafe can help open the wine’s mature fruit, oak and mineral notes.
Producer
Château La Louvière is one of the historic estates of Pessac-Léognan and has long been particularly respected for the quality of its white wines. Today associated with the renowned Bordeaux producer André Lurton, the château is classified among the Crus Classés de Graves, underlining its importance in the region. Its white La Louvière is widely regarded as an excellent ambassador for the dry white wines of Pessac-Léognan.
