Château la Gaffelière, Saint Émilion Dame de Gaffelière 2018

Dame de Gaffelière 2018 is the elegant second wine of Château la Gaffelière, offering a refined taste of Saint-Émilion with impressive balance and immediate charm. Crafted from carefully selected fruit and shaped by a long Bordeaux tradition, it combines freshness, finesse, and a supple, approachable style that makes it especially appealing in its youth.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2018 shows a deep ruby color with youthful vibrancy and a polished edge. The nose opens with red and black fruit aromas—think cherry, plum, and blackberry—lifted by a gentle spicy note that adds complexity without overpowering the fruit. On the palate, the wine is smooth and subtle, with a soft mid-palate, fine-grained tannins, and a cool-climate sense of precision. The warm days and cool nights of the vintage helped preserve freshness and tannin finesse, giving the wine both early drinkability and enough structure to age gracefully for several years.

Production
The grapes were harvested entirely by hand, with Merlot picked from 20 September to 1 October and Cabernet Franc from 9 to 10 October. Each parcel was vinified separately in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in tank to preserve purity and freshness. The wine was then aged for 12 months in French oak, including 15% new barrels and the remainder in one- and two-year-old casks, adding texture and subtle oak complexity without masking the fruit.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast poultry, duck breast, lamb, mushroom dishes, and soft to medium-aged cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and decanting is optional but recommended for about 30 minutes if you’d like to open up its aromas and soften the texture further.
