Château La Clotte is a refined Saint-Émilion wine from one of the appellation’s historic estates, known for producing elegant, finely structured reds with excellent cellaring potential. The 2021 vintage highlights the château’s character through freshness, aromatic precision and a graceful expression of its limestone-influenced terroir.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, the wine opens with aromas of ripe plum, black cherry and blackberry, complemented by violet, subtle spice and delicate earthy notes. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with polished tannins, vibrant acidity and a focused, mineral finish. The cooler 2021 growing season gives the wine freshness and balance, while further bottle ageing should allow its fruit, floral character and savoury complexity to develop over the next decade or longer.

Production
The estate is situated in Saint-Émilion, where limestone and clay soils help provide both structure and freshness. The blend is traditionally based on Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc and, depending on the vintage, small proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand before gentle vinification and maturation in oak, allowing the wine to retain the elegance and detail associated with Château La Clotte.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to breathe. Decanting for around 30–60 minutes can help the wine open in its youth, while older bottles are best handled gently and decanted only to remove any sediment. Its supple structure and savoury depth make it a natural partner for roast lamb, beef fillet, duck, braised short ribs, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses.

The château is associated with the Vauthier family, also known for Château Ausone, and has long been valued for its small-scale production and distinctive limestone terroir. Its wines are recognised for combining the richness expected from Saint-Émilion with notable finesse, freshness and ageing ability.
