Description
Château Haut-Brion Blanc 2005 is a rare and highly coveted white Bordeaux from one of the region’s most historic estates. Sourced from the legendary Haut-Brion property in Pessac, it combines remarkable freshness, depth, and age-worthiness, reflecting the château’s long-standing reputation for producing wines of exceptional precision and class. As one of Bordeaux’s most iconic names, Haut-Brion has set the benchmark for quality for centuries.
Tasting Notes
On the eye, the wine typically shows a luminous, golden hue that signals both ripeness and maturity. The nose is highly expressive, with aromas of citrus oil, lime, honeyed grapefruit, flowers, spicy smoke, and subtle earthy tones, giving it both energy and complexity.
The palate is full-bodied yet refined, with impressive definition, purity, and a fleshy, racy texture. It delivers layered fruit, vibrant acidity, and a long, polished finish, with the concentration to develop beautifully over time. This is a white Bordeaux with serious aging potential and can evolve gracefully for 30-40 years in a strong vintage like 2005.
Production
Château Haut-Brion is located in Pessac, just outside Bordeaux, on gravelly terroir ideally suited to both red and white grape varieties. The estate’s white vineyards are planted mainly with Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, and the grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness before careful sorting and destemming. Fermentation is started under controlled temperatures, and the wine is then matured in new French oak barrels for 20 to 24 months to build texture, complexity, and aromatic depth.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with rich seafood, lobster, scallops, turbot, roast chicken with cream sauces, and refined dishes featuring mushrooms or truffle. Serve it slightly chilled, ideally around 10-12°C, and consider decanting for 30-60 minutes if the bottle is showing youthful restraint or you want to open up its layered aromatics.
Producer
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s oldest and most prestigious estates, with a history dating back to the 16th century and a legacy of being the first Bordeaux wine sold under a château name. Acquired by Clarence Dillon in 1935, the property was restored to the highest level of excellence and remains under family stewardship today through Prince Robert of Luxembourg. As a First Growth from the 1855 classification, Haut-Brion stands among the most celebrated wine estates in the world, known for consistency, longevity, and exceptional quality across vintages.
