Description
Château Haut-Blanville Murmures 2013 is a mature red from the Grés de Montpellier appellation, offering the depth and complexity that come with careful parcel selection and extended oak ageing. Produced near Montpellier by a family estate founded in 1955, it reflects the diversity of Languedoc terroirs through a handcrafted, environmentally responsible approach.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with a deep, mature colour and an inviting bouquet of forest floor, leather, coffee and toasted nuances. On the palate, it is layered and savoury, combining ripe dark-fruit character with earthy notes, subtle roastiness and a long, structured finish shaped by 36 months in oak.
The 2013 vintage has reached a rewarding stage of maturity, with developed tertiary aromas and a more integrated texture. It should be enjoyed now while its forest-floor, leather and coffee notes are expressive, although careful cellaring may allow further evolution over the short term.
Production
Château Haut-Blanville owns 70 hectares within Grés de Montpellier, divided across five distinct terroirs. Over the past two decades, the estate has carefully selected individual parcels and vinifies their grapes separately to preserve the character of each site. The wines are made according to organic and responsible principles, with particular attention to soil health, the surrounding environment and biodiversity. Murmures is matured for 36 months in a combination of new and used oak barrels, bringing depth and polished toasted notes.
Food & Serving
A natural partner for grilled steak, particularly with roasted or peppered accompaniments, this full-flavoured red also pairs beautifully with duck, including roast duck or duck breast. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C. Decant for approximately 30–60 minutes to help the mature aromas unfold and to separate any sediment that may have developed during extended ageing.
Producer
The story of Château Haut-Blanville began in 1955, when Béatrice and Bernard Nivollet set out to build their own wine estate in the Languedoc. Located near Montpellier, the château has developed a reputation for expressive, handcrafted wines that reveal the region’s remarkable terroir diversity. Today, the estate’s parcel-by-parcel approach and commitment to organic, responsible farming place it among the respected producers of Grés de Montpellier, with its wines valued by collectors and lovers of distinctive Languedoc reds.
