Description

Château Figeac 2021 is a distinguished Saint-Émilion red from one of Bordeaux’s most historic estates. Renowned for its unusually high proportion of Cabernet varieties and gravel-rich vineyards, Figeac produces wines with remarkable freshness, structure and longevity. The 2021 vintage offers a refined, classic expression of the château, combining restraint with impressive depth.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-purple in appearance, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, followed by violet, graphite, cedar and subtle spice. The palate is elegant and finely detailed, with concentrated dark fruit, fresh acidity and polished tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc bring lift, savoury complexity and a long mineral finish, while the Merlot contributes roundness and supple fruit. Figeac 2021 is a composed, age-worthy wine that rewards patience. It can be enjoyed after several years of cellaring, but its structure and freshness suggest excellent development potential through the 2030s and beyond under suitable conditions.

Production
Château Figeac is distinguished by its extensive gravelly soils, an unusual feature in Saint-Émilion that provides excellent drainage and favours the cultivation of Cabernet varieties. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before fermentation, with parcels and grape varieties vinified separately to preserve their individual character. The wine is matured in French oak, allowing the fruit, structure and mineral profile to integrate gradually without obscuring the wine’s natural elegance.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C, ideally after allowing the bottle to come gently to temperature. A young bottle will benefit from decanting for around one to two hours, while older bottles should be decanted carefully and briefly to remove sediment. Its structure and savoury character make it an excellent partner for roast lamb, beef fillet, duck, venison, grilled mushrooms and mature hard cheeses.

Producer
Château Figeac is one of Saint-Émilion’s most celebrated estates, with origins reaching back many centuries and a modern reputation shaped by the Manoncourt family, who acquired the property in 1892. Its broad gravel terraces and distinctive Cabernet-led style set it apart within the appellation. Figeac has long held the highest classification in Saint-Émilion and was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the 2022 classification, confirming its status among the region’s most important and highly regarded wines.
