Description

Château d’Yquem 2023 is one of the world’s most revered sweet wines, celebrated for its extraordinary concentration, precision and longevity. Produced in Sauternes, where noble rot transforms ripe grapes into intensely flavoured fruit, it reflects the estate’s centuries-old reputation for uncompromising selection and craftsmanship.

Tasting Notes
The wine is richly golden in appearance, with a layered and expressive nose of honey, apricot, orange peel and delicate saffron. On the palate, it is opulent and concentrated yet remarkably fresh, with lively acidity balancing the sweetness and carrying the wine through an exceptionally long finish. Its complexity will continue to develop with age, revealing further notes of dried fruit, spice, caramel and toasted nuances. Properly stored, Château d’Yquem can mature gracefully for several decades.

Production
Château d’Yquem’s vineyards lie on a prominent ridge in Sauternes, with a varied terroir of gravel, clay and limestone. Morning mists formed by the Ciron and Garonne rivers encourage the development of noble rot, or botrytis cinerea, which concentrates the grapes’ sugars and flavours. Harvesting is carried out with extreme selectivity, often through multiple passes in the vineyard. Fermentation takes place slowly in new French oak due to the wine’s high sugar content, followed by approximately 20–36 months of maturation in new oak barrels, with regular selection and blending to achieve balance and precision.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C. Château d’Yquem is a classic partner for foie gras, blue cheeses and desserts featuring fruit, honey or apricot, while its vibrant acidity also allows it to complement refined savoury dishes with a sweet-and-sour contrast. Decanting is not essential for a young vintage, but a short decant can help open the wine and showcase its aromas.

Producer
Founded in the 16th century, Château d’Yquem has become the benchmark estate of Sauternes and the only wine classified as Premier Cru Supérieur in the historic 1855 classification. The estate is located in the heart of Bordeaux’s Sauternes appellation and is now part of the LVMH group. Its worldwide reputation rests on meticulous vineyard selection, extremely low yields and uncompromising precision in both vineyard and cellar.
