Description
Moulin de Duhart 2020 is the approachable second wine of Château Duhart-Milon, a distinguished Pauillac estate classified as a Quatrième Cru in the 1855 Classification. Produced under the guidance of the team behind Château Lafite Rothschild, it offers an elegant introduction to the estate’s gravelly Pauillac style, combining classic Cabernet character with supple, early-drinking charm.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in appearance, the 2020 vintage opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry, complemented by subtle hints of cedar, violet and gentle spice. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with polished tannins, fresh acidity and a layered core of dark fruit. Notes of graphite and finely integrated oak add structure and length, while the finish is balanced and refined.
Although approachable in its youth, Moulin de Duhart 2020 will benefit from a few years of bottle age and should develop gracefully through approximately 2030–2035, depending on storage conditions.
Production
The Duhart-Milon vineyards lie in the gravel-rich terroirs of Pauillac, where well-drained soils encourage deep-rooted vines and naturally concentrated fruit. Moulin de Duhart is made primarily from the estate’s traditional Bordeaux varieties, led by Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by Merlot, with the final blend varying by vintage. Grapes are carefully selected and fermented parcel by parcel before maturation in oak, allowing the wine to retain its freshness and Pauillac identity while offering a softer, more accessible expression than the grand vin.
Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to breathe. Decanting is not essential, but 30–60 minutes in a decanter can help reveal the wine’s fruit and savoury nuances, particularly when enjoyed young. Its structure and dark-fruit profile pair especially well with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, grilled steak, duck, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses.
Producer
Château Duhart-Milon is one of Pauillac’s historic estates and has held Fourth Growth status since the 1855 Classification. The property was acquired by Château Lafite Rothschild in 1962 and has since benefited from significant investment in its vineyards and winemaking facilities. Today, Duhart-Milon is respected for producing polished, age-worthy Pauillac wines that express the appellation’s gravelly terroir with precision and elegance.
