Description
Château Duhart-Milon 2023 is a Fourth Growth Pauillac from the prestigious Médoc classification of 1855 and part of the portfolio of the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). It combines the classic structure of Pauillac with the château’s polished, precise style, offering a compelling expression of Cabernet-led Bordeaux with excellent cellaring potential.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-purple in colour, the 2023 vintage opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, complemented by notes of cedar, graphite, violet and subtle spice. The palate is focused and elegant, with concentrated dark fruit, refined tannins and a fresh mineral character typical of Pauillac. Well-integrated oak supports the fruit rather than overpowering it, while a long, structured finish suggests that the wine will develop additional complexity with bottle age.
Enjoyable with decanting in its youth, Château Duhart-Milon 2023 should gain depth and savoury nuance over the next decade and can mature gracefully for considerably longer under suitable cellar conditions.
Production
The vineyards of Château Duhart-Milon lie on the gravelly soils of Pauillac, where excellent drainage and heat retention encourage slow, even ripening while the underlying clay contributes depth and structure. The wine is made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and smaller quantities of complementary Bordeaux varieties, with careful parcel selection, precise fermentation and maturation in French oak. The estate’s detailed vineyard and cellar management aims to preserve freshness, purity of fruit and the distinctive graphite character associated with Pauillac.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come gently to temperature. A decant of one to two hours is recommended when drinking the wine young, both to open its aromas and to soften its youthful structure. Its firm yet refined profile pairs beautifully with roast or grilled beef, lamb, venison, duck, truffle dishes and mature hard cheeses.
Producer
Château Duhart-Milon is a historic Pauillac estate whose origins date back several centuries. It became part of the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1962, after which extensive vineyard and cellar improvements helped restore the château’s reputation as one of Pauillac’s leading properties. Classified as a Quatrième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the estate is recognised for producing Cabernet-driven wines with elegance, depth and the long-lived character of the appellation.
