Description

Château Duhart-Milon 2021 is a refined Pauillac red from the historic Médoc classification, ranked as a Fourth Growth in 1855. Owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild alongside Château Lafite Rothschild, it combines Pauillac’s classic Cabernet-driven structure with the freshness and precision of the cooler 2021 vintage.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to crimson in appearance, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, followed by graphite, cedar, violet and subtle earthy notes. On the palate, it is fresh and focused, with vibrant dark-fruit flavours, fine-grained tannins and a mineral, savoury character typical of Pauillac. The finish is persistent and balanced, suggesting excellent development potential rather than immediate opulence. This is a classic, medium-bodied expression of the vintage, with the structure to mature gracefully in bottle. It can be enjoyed from around 2027, while further complexity should emerge through the 2030s and beyond when properly cellared.

Production
The vineyards of Château Duhart-Milon lie on the deep gravel soils of Pauillac, which provide excellent drainage and encourage the Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant vines to develop concentration and mineral definition. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled vats. The wine is then matured in French oak, including a proportion of new barrels, allowing the fruit, tannins and oak character to integrate while preserving the freshness of the 2021 vintage.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come gently to temperature. Decant for approximately 1–2 hours when serving young to soften the tannins and reveal the wine’s aromatic detail. Its structure and savoury character make it an excellent partner for roast lamb, grilled or roasted beef, venison, duck, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses.

Producer
Château Duhart-Milon has a long history in Pauillac and takes its name from the Marquis de Castillon, known as ‘Sieur Duhart’, who established a vineyard on the property in the 18th century. The château was classified as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 classification and has been part of the Domaines Barons de Rothschild portfolio since 1962. Significant investment in vineyard management, cellars and winemaking has helped establish Duhart-Milon as one of Pauillac’s most respected and consistently elegant estates.
