Description
Château Duhart-Milon 2021 is a refined Pauillac from one of the Médoc’s most respected estates, classified as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 Classification. Owned by the same family group as Château Lafite Rothschild since 1962, it combines Pauillac’s signature structure and mineral character with a polished, precise style.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby with youthful purple reflections, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, complemented by graphite, cedar, violet and subtle spice. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with fresh acidity, firm but finely textured tannins and concentrated dark-fruit flavours. A mineral, savoury finish brings balance and length. The 2021 vintage’s cooler, fresher character makes this an elegant and classic Pauillac, with the structure to develop gracefully over the next 10–15 years, or longer in a good cellar.
Production
The vineyards lie on the gravelly soils typical of Pauillac, which provide excellent drainage while reflecting sunlight and helping the vines achieve balanced ripeness. The blend is based primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and smaller proportions of other traditional Bordeaux varieties. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled vats, with parcels vinified separately. The wine is then matured in French oak, allowing the fruit, tannins and savoury complexity to integrate without overwhelming its freshness.
Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come gradually to serving temperature. Decant for around 1–2 hours when drinking young to soften the tannins and reveal the wine’s aromatic detail; older bottles should be handled more gently and may only require careful separation from any sediment. Its structure makes it an excellent match for roast beef, rack of lamb, venison, grilled entrecôte and richly flavoured mushroom dishes. It will also complement mature hard cheeses.
Producer
Château Duhart-Milon is one of Pauillac’s historic estates and has held Fourth Growth status since the 1855 Classification. The property was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1962, ushering in major investments in vineyard management and winemaking. Today, the estate is recognised for producing classic, Cabernet-led Pauillac wines that express the gravel soils and distinctive character of the appellation with elegance and precision.
