Château d'Issan, Margaux 2018

Château d’Issan 2018 is a refined Grand Cru Classé from Margaux, celebrated for combining the appellation’s signature elegance with impressive depth and structure. Classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 classification, the estate has a long and distinguished history, with wine production recorded here for centuries.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby colour with garnet highlights. Its aromatic profile is classic Margaux: lifted notes of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum are layered with violet, cedar, graphite and subtle spice. On the palate, Château d’Issan 2018 is generous and polished, offering concentrated dark fruit, silky tannins and well-integrated oak. Fine acidity keeps the wine fresh and energetic, while savoury, mineral nuances add complexity through the long finish. It is approachable with decanting now, but has the structure and balance to develop beautifully over the next 15–20 years, depending on storage conditions.

Production
The vineyards lie on the gravelly soils typical of the Margaux appellation, with clay and limestone beneath helping to retain moisture and provide structure during the growing season. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before fermentation in individual lots, allowing the château to preserve the character of each parcel. The wine is matured in French oak, with a balance of new and seasoned barrels to support the fruit while adding refinement, spice and depth.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for around one to two hours when enjoying the wine in its youth; older bottles should be decanted carefully and for a shorter period to remove any sediment without losing aromatic nuance. Its polished structure makes it an excellent partner for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, venison and richly flavoured mushroom dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses.
