Description
Château d’Issan Margaux 2018 is a refined Third Growth Bordeaux from one of the appellation’s most historic estates. Combining the elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon with the plushness of Merlot, this vintage offers classic Margaux perfume, polished structure and excellent cellaring potential. The château has been classified as a Troisième Cru in the 1855 Classification of Médoc wines.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to garnet in colour, the wine opens with an expressive bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum, complemented by violets, cedar, graphite and subtle spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet graceful, with concentrated dark fruit, finely integrated tannins and fresh acidity lending definition. Notes of dark chocolate, tobacco and earthy mineral emerge on the finish. With its balance and structure, Château d’Issan 2018 should develop beautifully over the next 10–15 years, and may evolve further with careful cellaring.
Production
The vineyards are planted on the gravelly alluvial soils typical of Margaux, which provide excellent drainage while encouraging deep-rooted vines and elegant, aromatic wines. The grapes are generally harvested by hand and carefully sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled vats, allowing each parcel to be vinified separately. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak, to support its fruit and structure without overpowering the château’s characteristic finesse.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours when drinking now to help open the wine’s floral and dark-fruit aromas; older bottles should be decanted carefully and briefly, primarily to remove any sediment. Its polished tannins and layered fruit pair well with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, venison, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses.
