On the palate, it is rich, concentrated and silky, with refined tannins and an impressive balance between dark fruit, freshness and structure. Subtle notes of pepper, smoke and spice lead into a long, persistent finish. The excellent 1999 vintage continues to show notable vitality, although this mature bottle is now best appreciated for its developed complexity rather than further cellaring.
