Description
Château de Rochemorin 2020 is a refined red from Pessac-Léognan, a distinguished appellation within Bordeaux’s historic Graves region. Produced by an estate associated with the philosopher Montesquieu, it combines elegant red and black fruit with subtle oak influence, polished texture and impressive length. Please note that this bottle has a damaged label; the wine itself offers the character and sophistication expected from this renowned property.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep dark-red colour with pronounced depth and attractive carmine reflections. Its bouquet is concentrated yet refined, revealing layers of red and black fruit alongside a delicate toasted note. On the palate, the attack is soft and inviting, followed by a pleasant sweetness of fruit, fine energy and a rounded, supple texture. Refined red-fruit flavours return on the finish, complemented by hints of vanilla and well-integrated oak, with a graceful persistence.
Already approachable thanks to its generous fruit and smooth structure, the 2020 vintage should develop added complexity with further bottle age. Its balance and tannic framework also give it the potential to mature beautifully over the coming years when stored in suitable conditions.
Production
Château de Rochemorin stands on one of the highest points of the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Martillac, where a diverse range of soils and terroirs contributes to the estate’s expressive wines. The grapes are traditionally vinified in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with remontage and pigeage used to gently extract colour and structure. The wine is then matured for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels, partly new, allowing the tannins to integrate while imparting a subtle toasted character without obscuring the fruit.
Food & Serving
This Bordeaux red is a natural partner for beef, lamb and game, and works particularly well with grilled meats or dishes served with richly spiced sauces. Serve at around 16–18°C, ideally after allowing the bottle to come to temperature gradually. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended when serving the wine young, both to open its aromas and to soften its structure; older bottles should be handled more gently and decanted only if necessary to remove sediment.
Producer
Château de Rochemorin is a prestigious estate in Martillac, within Pessac-Léognan, and is historically linked to the celebrated philosopher Montesquieu. Its varied terroirs produce both mineral, expressive white wines and elegant, finely detailed reds. Rochemorin wines are served in Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, reflecting the château’s strong reputation for quality and its particular suitability for sophisticated food and wine pairings.
