Description
Château de Rochemorin 2020 is an elegant Pessac-Léognan red from a historic estate in Martillac, celebrated for producing refined wines with both freshness and depth. Situated on one of the appellation’s highest points, the château is closely associated with the philosopher Montesquieu and remains a distinguished name in the Graves region. Its polished fruit, subtle oak character and graceful structure make it particularly well suited to the dinner table.
Tasting Notes
The wine has a deep red colour with attractive dark crimson reflections. Its bouquet is inviting and expressive, revealing refined aromas of red and black fruits alongside a delicate hint of toast and gentle vanilla from oak ageing.
On the palate, the attack is soft and rounded, with a pleasant touch of sweetness and an appealing sense of tension. Supple red-fruit flavours return from the nose, supported by fine-grained structure and a lingering finish. Already approachable, the 2020 vintage should develop additional complexity over the next 6–10 years when properly stored.
Production
The vineyards lie on an elevated site in Martillac within the Pessac-Léognan appellation, where a varied mix of terroirs and soil types contributes both freshness and expressive character. The grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks equipped with a patented cap-stirring system, helping to extract colour, aroma and structure with precision. The wine then matures for 12 months in oak barrels, approximately 30–40% of which are new, adding restrained toasted and vanilla notes without overwhelming the fruit.
Food & Serving
A versatile, food-friendly Bordeaux red, Château de Rochemorin 2020 pairs beautifully with rabbit in mustard sauce, roasted quail and duck confit. It is also a natural match for roast poultry, grilled lamb and earthy mushroom dishes. Serve slightly below room temperature, at around 16–18°C. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended when serving now, particularly to reveal the wine’s aromatic detail and soften its structure further.
