Description
Château de Pommard Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2013 is a striking Burgundy Pinot Noir that shows how exceptional craftsmanship can overcome a difficult vintage. From one of Pommard’s most distinguished monopole sites, it combines depth, elegance, and a strong sense of place—an impressive wine from a year that challenged growers across the region.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the classic dark hue associated with Pommard, framed by a delicate purple rim. The nose opens with clear aromas of dark fruit, flowers, spice, earth, crushed stone, and a subtle smoky note.
The palate is deep and intense, with fresh, silky tannins and a mineral-driven finish that gives the wine real length and precision. While already highly expressive, it should continue to develop beautifully with time, gaining more complexity and nuance over the coming years.
Production
The 2013 vintage in Burgundy was marked by frost, hail, rain, and a very slow ripening season, making careful vineyard work essential. Harvesting was done by hand, with meticulous sorting required due to the uneven conditions, and all bunches were destemmed before pressing. After three weeks of fermentation in stainless steel, the wine was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which were new.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs wonderfully with classic Burgundy fare such as duck, roasted poultry, game birds, lamb, or mushroom-based dishes. It is best served at around 16-18°C, and decanting for about 30-60 minutes can help bring out its layered aromatics and polished structure.
