Château de Lynch-Bages, Pauillac 5 2021

Château Lynch-Bages is one of Pauillac’s most recognised Fifth Growth estates, celebrated for producing powerful, age-worthy wines with the structure and character associated with the Médoc. The 2021 vintage offers a more classic, refined expression, combining Cabernet Sauvignon-led depth with the freshness of a cooler growing season.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry, complemented by cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf and subtle floral notes. On the palate, it is fresh and focused, with ripe but firm tannins, vibrant acidity and layers of dark fruit, spice and mineral character. The finish is long and savoury, with the structure to develop gracefully in bottle.

Production
The vineyards of Lynch-Bages lie on the gravelly soils of Pauillac, which provide excellent drainage and help retain warmth while encouraging deep-rooted vines. Grapes are carefully selected and traditionally harvested, with vinification carried out parcel by parcel to preserve the character of the different plots. The wine is matured in oak, allowing its fruit, tannins and mineral complexity to integrate. Although approachable with decanting, the 2021 vintage should continue to evolve for many years.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for roast lamb, grilled or braised beef, venison and other richly flavoured game dishes. It also pairs well with mature hard cheeses and classic French cuisine featuring mushrooms or truffles. Serve at approximately 16–18°C and decant for one to two hours when enjoying it young, particularly to soften the tannins and reveal its aromatic depth.

Producer
Château Lynch-Bages takes its name from the hamlet of Bages and has a history dating back to the eighteenth century. The estate became part of the Cazes family portfolio in 1939 and has since earned an international reputation for combining traditional Pauillac character with meticulous modern winemaking. Its wines are recognised for their consistency, longevity and distinctive expression of the gravelly terroirs surrounding the Gironde estuary.
