Description
Château de Corcelles Beaujolais Blanc 2022 combines refreshing citrus-led character with the historic charm of one of the region’s most remarkable estates. Its bright, mineral style, subtle roundness and partial oak ageing make it an elegant choice for both seafood and refined poultry dishes. The château itself dates back to foundations from the Carolingian period and has been listed as a French national heritage site since 1927.
Tasting Notes
Bright and delicate in appearance, this white Beaujolais opens with inviting aromas of citrus, white flowers and crisp apple. On the palate, it is fresh and juicy, supported by refined acidity and a gentle roundness that adds balance and texture. The finish is dry, clean and distinctly mineral.
This is a wine best enjoyed for its youthful freshness, though its structure and partial oak maturation should allow it to develop added softness and complexity over the short term. It is particularly appealing now and over the next few years when served well chilled.
Production
The estate’s vineyards include a significant number of old vines with an average age of around 40 years. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented at controlled temperatures, encouraging a slow fermentation that contributes roundness and complexity. The wine receives partial ageing in oak barrels, adding subtle texture without overshadowing its fresh, mineral character.
Food & Serving
Serve Château de Corcelles Beaujolais Blanc at approximately 8–10°C. Its lively acidity and dry finish make it a natural partner for foie gras, grilled fish and poultry, while its gentle richness also suits delicate creamy sauces and other lightly seasoned dishes. Decanting is not necessary, although opening the bottle shortly before serving can give the aromas a little extra time to unfold.
Producer
Château de Corcelles has a long and fascinating history. Rebuilt by Antoine de Laye on the foundations of an older Carolingian-period building, the château once stood near the Douby River, which marked historical boundaries between the bishoprics of Autun and Lyon and the counties of Burgundy and Beaujolais. The Ragny de La Magdeleine family helped shape the estate, including its French Renaissance-style inner courtyard, before the property passed to the Tircuy de La Barre family for several centuries. Following extensive restoration in the 1960s and further investment by the Richard family, the château has regained its former splendour and welcomes visitors from around the world.
