Description
Château de Camensac 2016 is an elegant, fresh and finely structured red Bordeaux from the Haut-Médoc. A 5th Growth of the 1855 Classification, the estate is known for producing polished wines that combine classic Médoc character with approachable fruit, making this vintage an excellent choice for both Bordeaux enthusiasts and those discovering the region.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby colour with youthful garnet hues. Its nose offers expressive aromas of black fruit, red berries, warm spices and well-integrated French oak, with a subtle earthy character developing in the glass. On the palate, it is refined and balanced, showing layers of red and black fruit supported by fresh acidity, supple tannins and a gently savoury finish.
The 2016 vintage is noted for its balance, concentration and freshness. It can be enjoyed now with a little air, while further bottle ageing over the next 8–12 years should allow the fruit, oak and savoury notes to develop additional complexity.
Production
Produced in the Haut-Médoc, Château de Camensac benefits from the gravelly soils characteristic of the Médoc, which encourage good drainage and help the vines produce concentrated yet elegant fruit. The wine is fermented at approximately 28°C for around six days, followed by a maceration of roughly three weeks to extract colour, flavour and structure. It is then matured in French oak barrels for 14–18 months, with around 60% of the barrels being new.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Château de Camensac 2016 is a natural partner for regional French dishes, as well as roast or grilled lamb, duck and beef. It also works well with mature cheeses. Decant for around 1–2 hours before serving, particularly if enjoyed now, to soften the tannins and allow the aromatic layers to open.
Producer
Château de Camensac is a historic Médoc estate located in Saint-Laurent-Médoc and recognised as a Cinquième Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification. Its wines reflect the classic identity of the Haut-Médoc: Cabernet-led structure, fresh fruit, refined tannins and a measured use of oak. The estate has long held an important place among the region’s classified growths, offering a polished and accessible expression of Left Bank Bordeaux.
