Description
Château d’Aqueria Lirac 2023 is a refined red from one of the Southern Rhône’s historic estates, prized for its generous fruit, floral character and elegant structure. Produced at a 100-hectare property spanning the Lirac and Tavel appellations, it combines the warmth of the Rhône with a polished, balanced style. The estate has been shaped by centuries of viticultural heritage and has been under the stewardship of the Guigal family since May 2022.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep, intense red colour with vivid purple reflections. Its complex nose opens with floral aromas, followed by ripe red fruits and gently warming spices.
On the palate, it is soft and well balanced, with expressive fruit and elegant, well-integrated tannins. The finish is harmonious and inviting. While approachable in its youth, the wine should gain added complexity over the next few years when carefully cellared.
Production
The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed and lightly crushed before undergoing a four-week maceration in vats. During fermentation, the cap is regularly broken and the must is pumped over to extract the finest qualities from each grape variety. The wine is then matured for 6–10 months, with 30% aged in French oak barrels between one and four years old. Château d’Aqueria has long worked with sustainable viticultural practices and is now developing its methods with the ambition of moving towards organic production, while preserving the character of its rich Lirac terroirs.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C alongside duck breast with wild mushrooms, entrecôte with cranberry sauce or a selection of mature cheeses. A short decant of around 30 minutes can help open the wine’s floral and spicy aromas, although it can also be enjoyed directly from the bottle after a little time in the glass.
Producer
Château d’Aqueria is a historic estate of around 100 hectares extending across the prestigious Tavel and Lirac appellations in the Southern Rhône Valley. Long regarded as one of the region’s jewels, it has been carefully shaped by generations who protected the quality of its distinctive terroirs. In May 2022, the Guigal family took over the estate with the aim of honouring Aqueria’s heritage while further elevating the quality and reputation of its Tavel and Lirac wines.
