Tasting Notes
The 2022 vintage displays a brilliant golden hue, with aromas of ripe stone fruit, citrus blossom, honey and subtle spice. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated, showing flavours of apricot, peach, candied citrus and vanilla, supported by the lively acidity that is characteristic of Château Coutet’s Barsac wines. Its sweetness is beautifully integrated rather than heavy, with a long, fresh finish. This is a wine that can be enjoyed in its youth for its generous fruit, while also offering excellent aging potential over many years as its honeyed, spiced and tertiary nuances develop.

Production
The vineyards lie on the clay and limestone soils of Barsac, a terroir that contributes both depth and freshness. Like other great wines of Sauternes, Château Coutet relies on noble rot, or botrytis cinerea, which concentrates the grapes’ sugars and flavours; harvesting is carried out selectively in successive passes as suitably affected bunches reach maturity. The wine is traditionally made from the classic Sauternes varieties, led by Sémillon with Sauvignon Blanc and smaller proportions of Muscadelle, followed by fermentation and maturation designed to preserve its balance, aromatic complexity and natural acidity.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Château Coutet 2022 is a natural partner for foie gras, blue cheeses and fruit-based desserts, and it also works beautifully with spicy Asian cuisine or roasted poultry accompanied by sweet and savoury elements. Decanting is not essential when young, although a brief decant can help the wine open; mature bottles are best poured carefully to avoid disturbing any sediment.
