Château Cos Labory, Saint-Estèphe Grand Cru Classé 2018

Château Cos Labory 2018 is a classic Saint-Estèphe Grand Cru Classé, showing the depth and structure that make this Left Bank estate so respected. Built on Cabernet Sauvignon-led power and lifted by Merlot’s generosity, it combines dark fruit, freshness, and a distinctive mineral edge in a style that speaks clearly of Bordeaux tradition.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet-purple color. The nose is warmly expressive, with cassis, blackberry compote, and Morello cherry, layered with notes of roses, unsmoked cigar, and bark. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a very firm tannic framework and impressive freshness, which supports the delicate fruit profile. The finish is long, earthy, and mineral-driven. While the structure is already apparent, it will reward patience; a further 3–5 years in the cellar will soften the tannins, and it should drink well over the next 15–20 years.

Production
The 2018 blend is composed of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot. It was aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, with 50% new oak, giving the wine added complexity and polish without overwhelming its Saint-Estèphe character.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, ribeye steak, duck breast, game, or slow-braised beef dishes, as well as hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the wine open and soften its tannins.
