Description
Château Corbin Saint-Émilion 2018 is an intense, full-bodied and beautifully rounded red Bordeaux, marked by generous red and black fruit, refined tannins and an impressively long finish. One of the appellation’s oldest estates, Château Corbin has foundations dating back to the 15th century and is traditionally associated with the legend of the Black Prince, who is said to have used the site as a strategic stronghold.
Tasting Notes
Deep and richly coloured in the glass, the wine opens with expressive aromas of ripe red and black fruit, complemented by subtle oak nuances from its time in French barrels. On the palate, it is full and layered, balancing concentration with freshness and polished tannins. The finish is long, smooth and harmonious, making the 2018 vintage approachable now while offering the structure to develop further in bottle over the coming years.
Production
The wine is produced in Saint-Émilion on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, a region renowned for elegant, Merlot-led red wines and clay- and limestone-influenced terroirs. After destemming, the grapes are vinified parcel by parcel in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. Alcoholic fermentation is followed by three to four weeks of maceration on the skins. The wine is then transferred to carefully selected French oak barrels, where it matures for approximately 16 to 17 months and is racked once or twice before being filtered and bottled.
Food & Serving
A natural partner for roast lamb, beef fillet, duck, venison and richly flavoured poultry, it also works well with hearty mushroom dishes and mature cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended, particularly when opening the bottle young, to allow the fruit and fine tannins to unfold.
Producer
Château Corbin is one of the historic estates of Saint-Émilion, with foundations dating from the 15th century. The property was purchased in 1924 by the grandparents of the current owners, and since 1999 it has been led by Anabelle Cruse-Bardinet, a Bordeaux-trained oenologist representing the family’s fourth generation. Her involvement continues the estate’s long-standing family tradition while combining it with a careful, modern approach to winemaking.
