Château Clerc Milon, Pauillac Pastourelle de Clerc Milon 5 2023

Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is the second wine of Château Clerc Milon, one of Pauillac’s celebrated estates within the Baron Philippe de Rothschild portfolio. The 2023 vintage offers the estate’s characteristic Left Bank style in a more approachable and earlier-drinking expression, combining refined structure with the classic black-fruited character of Pauillac.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, the wine is expected to show an inviting bouquet of blackcurrants, blackberries and ripe plums, complemented by subtle floral notes, cedar and a hint of spice. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with juicy dark fruit, well-integrated tannins and a fresh, polished finish marked by gentle tobacco and mineral nuances. While approachable in its youth, Pastourelle de Clerc Milon should develop additional complexity over the next several years. It is best enjoyed from around 2026, with the potential to evolve gracefully through approximately 2032–2035 when properly cellared.

Production
The wine comes from the gravelly soils of Pauillac, where well-draining gravel encourages deep rooting and helps Cabernet Sauvignon achieve structure and aromatic concentration. Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is produced from a Bordeaux-style blend of estate-grown grapes, with Cabernet Sauvignon typically providing the backbone and Merlot contributing softness and ripe fruit. Careful vineyard selection and traditional vinification are followed by maturation in oak, giving the wine polish while preserving its freshness and approachable character.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to settle. A short decant of 30–45 minutes can help open the wine in its youth, although older bottles are best handled gently. Its dark-fruited profile and supple tannins pair well with roast lamb, grilled or braised beef, veal, duck, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses.
