Château Cheval Blanc, Saint Émilion 1 2022

Château Cheval Blanc 2022 is one of Saint-Émilion’s most celebrated wines, renowned for combining the refinement of Cabernet Franc with the richness and silkiness of Merlot. Produced by a historic estate whose origins date back centuries, this vintage offers impressive depth, precision and long-term ageing potential.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, vibrant ruby colour with purple highlights. The nose is expressive and layered, revealing ripe blackberries, cassis and dark cherries alongside violets, graphite, cedar and subtle spice. On the palate, it is concentrated yet remarkably elegant, with polished tannins, fresh acidity and a finely structured finish. Notes of black fruit, liquorice, cocoa and mineral tones develop with air, suggesting excellent cellaring potential. It can be enjoyed from around 2030, while a long evolution in bottle is expected well beyond 2045.

Production
The vineyards of Château Cheval Blanc lie on the western edge of Saint-Émilion, where gravelly and sandy soils are interspersed with clay, creating ideal conditions for both Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The estate’s parcels are harvested by hand according to individual ripeness, followed by careful sorting and parcel-by-parcel vinification in temperature-controlled vats. The wine is then matured in French oak, allowing its ripe fruit, mineral character and structure to integrate gradually.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after decanting for two to four hours, particularly while the wine is young. Its depth and refined tannins make it a natural partner for roasted or grilled beef, venison, lamb, duck and richly flavoured mushroom dishes. It also pairs beautifully with mature hard cheeses. Older bottles should be decanted carefully and for a shorter period to preserve their delicate aromas.
