Château Cheval Blanc, Saint Émilion 1 2017

Château Cheval Blanc 2017 is one of Saint-Émilion’s most distinguished wines, combining the estate’s signature Cabernet Franc character with the richness and depth of Merlot. Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé A at the time of this vintage, it is a refined, cellar-worthy Bordeaux with remarkable poise and complexity.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby colour with purple highlights. Its expressive bouquet reveals blackcurrant, blackberry and plum alongside violets, graphite, cedar and subtle spice. On the palate, it is concentrated yet finely balanced, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and layers of dark fruit, mineral notes and gently savoury complexity. The 2017 vintage is already approachable with decanting, but it has the structure and freshness to develop beautifully for 15–25 years under suitable cellar conditions.

Production
Château Cheval Blanc is situated on a distinctive mosaic of gravel, sand and clay soils on the border of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. The estate’s blend is traditionally led by Cabernet Franc, supported by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, giving the wine both aromatic lift and generous texture. Grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand, then vinified parcel by parcel before maturation in French oak, allowing the fruit, tannins and oak influence to integrate gradually.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after decanting for approximately 1–2 hours, particularly when enjoying the wine in its youth. Its depth and refined tannins make it an excellent partner for roast lamb, beef fillet, venison and other richly flavoured game dishes. It also pairs well with truffle-based preparations, mature hard cheeses and classic dishes featuring mushrooms or herbs.
