Château Canon, Saint Émilion 2022

Château Canon 2022 is a refined Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé from one of the appellation’s most distinguished limestone estates. Known for combining generous Merlot fruit with the freshness and structure of Cabernet Franc, this vintage offers both immediate appeal and excellent long-term ageing potential.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in appearance, the wine opens with aromas of ripe black cherry, blackberry and plum, complemented by violet, graphite and subtle spice. On the palate, it is concentrated yet poised, with silky tannins, vibrant freshness and a pronounced mineral character typical of Château Canon’s limestone terroir. Dark fruit flavours carry through to a long, elegant finish with hints of cocoa and savoury spice. With careful cellaring, the 2022 should develop beautifully over the next 15–25 years.

Production
The vineyards are situated on and around Saint-Émilion’s famous limestone plateau, where well-drained soils and natural water retention help preserve freshness, even in warm vintages. The estate is planted predominantly with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with the grapes harvested by hand and carefully selected before fermentation. Vinification takes place parcel by parcel, followed by maturation in French oak, allowing the wine’s fruit, mineral character and polished tannins to integrate harmoniously.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C, ideally after decanting for approximately one to two hours, particularly when enjoying the wine in its youth. Its structure and depth make it an excellent partner for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison and duck, as well as dishes featuring mushrooms, truffles or mature hard cheeses.

Château Canon takes its name from Jacques Kanon, who acquired the estate in the 18th century and helped establish its reputation in Saint-Émilion. The property has held Grand Cru Classé status since the appellation’s original classification in 1955 and has been owned by Chanel since 1996. Extensive vineyard and cellar improvements have strengthened Château Canon’s position among the leading estates of the Right Bank, with its wines celebrated for their elegance, precision and distinctive limestone freshness.
