Le Haut-Médoc de Branaire-Ducru 2019 brings the poise and polish of a Saint-Julien Fourth Growth to an approachable, left-bank Bordeaux. Made with the same care as the estate’s Grand Vin, it combines lively fruit, classic Médoc character and finely shaped structure.

Tasting Notes
Ruby in colour, it opens with cassis and blackcurrant alongside fresh plum, cedar, tobacco leaf and pencil shavings. Hints of mint, leather and roasted coffee add depth to its classically Bordeaux-scented nose. Medium-bodied and polished, the palate balances vibrant blackcurrant and blueberry with dark chocolate, pepper, cigar box and a touch of vanilla. Fresh acidity and fine, gradually emerging tannins give the finish both energy and a silky feel. Its structure should allow it to develop gracefully with a few years in the cellar.

Production
The fruit comes from the estate’s 2.9 hectares on a gravel plateau in Cussac-Haut-Médoc, a neighbouring commune of Saint-Julien on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The grapes are hand-harvested, and the 2019 blend is 60% Merlot, bringing roundness and fruit, and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, contributing structure and tannin. Vinified with the estate’s customary attention to precision, the wine is aged for 12 months in 225-litre barrels in the château’s cellars.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C with roast lamb, grilled or braised beef, duck, or mushroom dishes. A short decant of 30–60 minutes can help the wine’s aromas unfold, particularly while it is young.

Château Branaire-Ducru is based in Saint-Julien, one of the Médoc’s most celebrated communes, and was classified as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The estate is known for wines that marry the structure associated with the Left Bank to freshness and refinement. Le Haut-Médoc de Branaire-Ducru offers an introduction to that house style, made from estate-grown fruit beyond the château’s Saint-Julien vineyards.
