Description
Brulières de Beychevelle 2020 is a polished Haut-Médoc red from Château Beychevelle, made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown in the Cussac-Fort-Médoc sector. Produced with the same care as the château’s renowned grand vin, it combines generous fruit, spice and rounded structure in a characterful Bordeaux style.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep ruby colour. On the nose, inviting aromas of blackcurrant and other red fruits are complemented by subtle spice. The palate is powerful yet fruit-driven, with a pleasing roundness and a gently spicy finish. It is approachable in its youth, while its Cabernet Sauvignon structure should allow it to develop further over the next several years—ideally through the late 2020s and into the early 2030s when well stored.
Production
The 12-hectare vineyard lies in Cussac-Fort-Médoc in the Haut-Médoc appellation, around 5 kilometres south of Château Beychevelle, and is planted exclusively with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The grapes undergo traditional vinification, with fermentation lasting 18 to 21 days. Brulières de Beychevelle is matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new, in a separate cellar dedicated to the wine’s élevage.
Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come close to room temperature. A short decant of 30–60 minutes can help the wine’s fruit and spice aromas open, particularly when enjoyed young. Its rich, rounded profile pairs well with roast beef, lamb, grilled steak, duck, hearty poultry dishes, mushroom-based preparations and mature hard cheeses.
Producer
Château Beychevelle is one of Bordeaux’s best-known estates, located in the Saint-Julien appellation and classified as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 Classification. The estate has a long history and is especially recognisable for its elegant château and distinctive sailing-ship imagery, reflecting its historic connection with the Gironde estuary. Brulières de Beychevelle reflects the estate’s commitment to careful vineyard selection, traditional winemaking and refined Médoc style.
