Description
Brulières de Beychevelle 2019 is a polished Haut-Médoc red from the renowned Château Beychevelle, offering an elegant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Produced from a dedicated 12-hectare vineyard in Cussac-Fort-Médoc, around 5 km south of the château, it combines Médoc character with a generous, full-bodied style. The wine receives the same careful attention as the estate’s flagship Château Beychevelle.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby colour, with an elegant and inviting nose marked by dark fruit, subtle spice and refined oak nuances. On the palate, it is full and rounded, balancing ripe fruit with the structure and freshness typical of a well-made Haut-Médoc. Smooth tannins provide definition without overwhelming the wine, while the 12 months of French oak ageing contribute additional depth and polish.
The 2019 vintage is approachable now with decanting, but its Cabernet Sauvignon structure should allow it to develop further over the next several years. Expect the fruit and oak to integrate with time, revealing greater complexity and savoury Médoc character.
Production
The 12-hectare vineyard in Cussac-Fort-Médoc is planted exclusively with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The grapes undergo traditional vinification, including 18 to 21 days of fermentation and maceration to extract colour, aroma and structure. Brulières de Beychevelle is matured in French oak barrels for 12 months, with 20% of the barrels being new, and is handled in a separate cellar with the same care given to the estate’s grand vin.
Food & Serving
A natural match for roast lamb, grilled or braised beef, venison and other richly flavoured game dishes. It also works well with steak, hearty mushroom preparations and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 30–60 minutes before serving, particularly if enjoying the wine in its youth.
Producer
Château Beychevelle is one of the historic estates of Bordeaux’s Saint-Julien appellation and is classified as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 Classification. The château has long been recognised for its elegant, structured Médoc wines and its striking maritime heritage. Brulières de Beychevelle extends this estate style through fruit sourced from its Haut-Médoc vineyard, while benefiting from the winery’s established expertise and meticulous production standards.
