Description

Château Berliquet Saint-Émilion 2016 is a refined Right Bank Bordeaux shaped by the limestone-rich terroir of Saint-Émilion. The vintage is widely regarded as one of Bordeaux’s finest in recent years, offering a compelling combination of ripe fruit, freshness and polished structure. As a historic Saint-Émilion estate, Berliquet brings both regional character and classic cellar potential to the glass.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in colour, this wine opens with expressive aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry, complemented by floral hints, subtle spice and delicate cedar-like notes from oak ageing. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with generous dark fruit, smooth tannins and a refreshing mineral lift typical of limestone-influenced Saint-Émilion. The finish is elegant and persistent, with savoury nuances emerging alongside the fruit. The 2016 vintage’s balance and concentration make this a wine that can be enjoyed now with decanting, while further bottle development should reward cellaring for many years. Expect increasing complexity, with notes of tobacco, dried herbs and earth developing over time.

Production
Château Berliquet’s vineyards lie on the varied limestone and clay soils of Saint-Émilion, a setting particularly well suited to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The grapes are carefully selected and harvested at optimum ripeness before being vinified with the aim of preserving the fruit’s freshness and the vineyard’s mineral character. Maturation in oak contributes gentle spice, texture and integration while allowing the wine’s natural structure to develop.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Château Berliquet 2016 pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled or braised beef, duck, venison and richly flavoured mushroom dishes. It is also a natural match for mature hard cheeses. Decant for around 30–60 minutes before serving to soften the tannins and allow the aromas to unfold, particularly when opening a young bottle.

Producer
Château Berliquet is one of the historic properties of Saint-Émilion, with a winemaking tradition stretching back several centuries. The estate is recognised for producing structured yet elegant wines that express the classic character of the appellation, where Merlot-driven richness is balanced by the freshness and savoury detail of Cabernet Franc. Its established place among Saint-Émilion’s estates makes it a respected source of age-worthy Right Bank Bordeaux.
