Château Bellefont-Belcier, Saint Émilion Les Tours de Belcier 2018

Les Tours de Belcier 2018 is the refined second wine of Château Bellefont-Belcier, a historic Saint-Émilion estate situated on the appellation’s southern slopes. Combining generous dark-fruit character with notes of spice and chocolate, it offers an approachable introduction to the château’s Grand Cru Classé style while retaining the elegance associated with its prestigious origins.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a deep ruby colour and a fresh, fruit-driven bouquet marked by black cherries, liquorice and warm spices. On the palate, it is expressive and supple, with flavours of blackberry, juniper, pepper and dark chocolate. The structure is balanced by vibrant fruit and a refreshing finish, making it enjoyable now with a little air while also allowing it to develop further in bottle over the next several years.

Production
Château Bellefont-Belcier lies on the southern side of Saint-Émilion, where the vines benefit from the château’s hillside terroir and natural underground springs—an influence reflected in the estate’s name, Bellefont, meaning “beautiful fountain.” The wine is made using low-temperature maceration in temperature-controlled concrete tanks and small wooden vats, a gentle approach designed to preserve freshness, fruit purity and aromatic detail.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Les Tours de Belcier pairs particularly well with roast lamb, grilled or braised beef, duck, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but 30–45 minutes in a decanter—or simply opening the bottle shortly before serving—will help reveal its spice, dark-fruit and chocolate notes.

Producer
Founded at the end of the 18th century, Château Bellefont-Belcier was established by the influential Bordeaux nobleman Count Louis-François de Belcier, who later built the château in the early 19th century. The estate underwent a major restructuring in 1994 and was classified as a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé in 2006. Its historic setting, hillside vineyards and focus on careful, temperature-controlled winemaking have helped secure its standing among the appellation’s notable properties.
