Château Bellefont-Belcier, Saint Émilion 2019

Château Bellefont-Belcier 2019 is a refined Saint-Émilion red from one of the appellation’s distinguished Grand Cru estates. The vintage combines the richness and approachability of Merlot with the structure and aromatic lift of Cabernet Franc, offering a polished expression of Bordeaux with excellent cellar potential.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour with garnet reflections, this wine opens with inviting aromas of ripe blackberries, black cherries and plums, complemented by violet, spice and subtle notes of cedar and toast. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet balanced, with generous dark-fruit flavours, supple tannins and a fresh mineral character typical of Saint-Émilion’s limestone-influenced terroir. A smooth, persistent finish reveals hints of cocoa and gentle oak. It can be enjoyed now after decanting, but should develop further complexity over the next 8–12 years.

Production
The Château’s vineyards lie on the slopes and limestone-rich soils surrounding Saint-Émilion, where clay helps retain moisture and supports the wine’s depth and texture. Grapes are typically harvested by hand and carefully sorted before fermentation, allowing the estate to preserve the character of each parcel. Fermentation and maturation take place using a combination of temperature-controlled vessels and oak, creating a wine that balances the plush fruit of Merlot with the structure and aromatic complexity of the Cabernet varieties.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C, ideally after decanting for around one hour to allow the wine’s fruit and savoury nuances to open. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, venison and hearty mushroom dishes. Mature hard cheeses, such as Comté or aged Gouda, also make an excellent match.
