Château Badette Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2021 is a characterful Bordeaux red that brings Saint-Émilion’s elegance and depth back into the spotlight. Restored with great care by Belgian owner Marc-André Vandenbogaerde, the estate combines historic prestige with a modern, terroir-driven approach that aims for power, finesse, and authenticity in equal measure.

Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a deep ruby colour with a polished, inviting sheen. On the nose, expect a refined bouquet of ripe dark berries, plum, violet, and subtle cedar, with the kind of perfume and softness that Saint-Émilion is known for. The palate is shaped by ripe fruit, supple tannins, and a balanced structure, giving the wine both richness and elegance. There is a traditional Bordeaux sense of depth here, but also freshness and precision, making it enjoyable now while still offering good ageing potential over the next 8–12 years, depending on cellaring conditions.

Production
Château Badette sits among Grand Cru estates in Saint-Émilion, benefiting from a prized terroir that Marc-André Vandenbogaerde identified as one of the best in the region. The vineyard is farmed with traditional methods, without herbicides, with grass cover in the rows and leaf removal to encourage healthy ripening. Harvesting is done by hand in small crates, and vinification takes place in small 40- to 70-hectolitre tanks, with part of the harvest fully vinified in new oak barrels for added texture and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, duck breast, beef fillet, mushroom dishes, or slow-cooked game. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromatics and tannins to open fully.

Château Badette has a long history in Saint-Émilion and was already praised in the late 19th century as one of the estate’s leading properties, known for producing delicate, soft, and perfumed wines. Under Marc-André Vandenbogaerde’s ownership since his research in the region began in 2008, the château has been carefully restored and repositioned, helping it regain the recognition it once enjoyed among Saint-Émilion’s respected names.
