Chapelle d’Ausone is the second wine of the legendary Château Ausone, offering the estate’s hallmark precision, mineral character and finesse in a more approachable style. First released in 1995, it is made by the same team and according to the same exacting philosophy as the Grand Vin, with the name referring to the historic 12th-century chapel on the property.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in colour, the 2018 Chapelle d’Ausone opens with refined aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant and raspberry, followed by violet, graphite, cedar and subtle spice. The palate is elegant and precise, combining ripe yet polished tannins with a distinctive chalky minerality and impressive freshness. Its long, clean and harmonious finish clearly reflects Ausone’s signature style while remaining accessible in its youth. The wine has the structure and balance to develop further in bottle, with the fruit, mineral character and oak integration expected to gain additional complexity over the coming years. It can be enjoyed now with decanting, or carefully cellared for medium- to long-term ageing.

Production
The grapes come primarily from the estate’s younger vines, together with selected parcels chosen for their quality and balance. Following rigorous selection, the fruit is vinified parcel by parcel with the same meticulous approach used for Château Ausone. The wine is then matured for approximately 20 months in new French oak barrels, allowing its structure, finesse and complexity to develop while preserving freshness and precision.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison and other richly flavoured red meats, it also pairs well with mushroom dishes, truffle preparations and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for around 1–2 hours when drinking young to soften the tannins and reveal the wine’s aromatic detail; older bottles should be handled more gently and decanted only if necessary.

Its vineyards occupy a remarkable limestone site above the town, a terroir closely associated with the estate’s distinctive combination of power, freshness and mineral elegance. Chapelle d’Ausone has been produced as the château’s second wine since 1995, extending the estate’s signature style to a more accessible expression while retaining its exceptional standards of selection and vinification.
