Description

Charles Heidsieck Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut is a refined expression of 100% Chardonnay from some of Champagne’s most prized crus. This cuvée brings together the house’s long-standing mastery of still white wines and its celebrated blending expertise, resulting in a Champagne that is both crystalline and complex. First released as a Blanc de Blancs in 1949 and relaunched in 2018, it stands as a modern tribute to Charles Heidsieck’s historic passion for Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Blanc de Blancs shows a pale, luminous gold hue with hints of green at the rim and a fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with precise notes of lemon zest, ripe pear, green apple and white peach, layered with delicate white flowers, chalky minerality and subtle pastry and brioche tones from extended lees aging. On the palate, it is both taut and generous: a fresh, linear core of citrus and stone fruits is wrapped in a creamy, silky texture that is very much the signature "Charles" house style. Flavors of citrus confit, crisp orchard fruit and almond are lifted by vibrant acidity and a saline, chalk-driven finish. The balance of youthful energy and mature complexity makes it highly enjoyable now, with the structure and reserve wine component giving it the potential to evolve gracefully for 5–8 years after release, gaining even more nutty and toasty nuances.

Production
Crafted exclusively from Chardonnay, this Champagne is sourced primarily from premier and grand cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and other chalk-rich sites across the Champagne region of France. The cool climate and pure limestone soils lend finesse, tension and a distinctive mineral edge. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure careful selection, then gently pressed to obtain only the finest juice. The base wines from different villages and vintages are vinified separately in stainless steel to preserve freshness, before being meticulously blended with a significant proportion of reserve wines to build depth and consistency. After secondary fermentation in bottle, the wine is aged for several years in Charles Heidsieck’s historic chalk cellars, allowing the lees to contribute creaminess, complexity and the house’s signature silkiness.

Food & Serving
This Blanc de Blancs is a natural partner for refined, delicately flavored dishes. It shines alongside fresh oysters, scallops carpaccio, sushi and sashimi, or classic Champagne pairings such as caviar and smoked salmon. It also works beautifully with fine white fish, citrus-dressed crab, goat’s cheese and light poultry dishes with creamy sauces. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F). While decanting is not essential, pouring it into larger white wine glasses and giving it a few minutes in the glass will help the aromas and texture fully unfold.

Producer
Founded in 1851 in Reims, Charles Heidsieck is one of Champagne’s most respected and historic houses, renowned for its long aging, generous style and exceptional reserve wine program. Often referred to as "Champagne Charlie" after its charismatic founder, the house played a key role in popularizing Champagne abroad, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom. Its extensive network of Gallo-Roman chalk cellars, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provides ideal conditions for slow maturation, contributing to the depth and complexity that define its wines. Over the years, Charles Heidsieck has earned a reputation among critics and sommeliers as a benchmark producer for non-vintage and prestige cuvées, frequently winning top awards for the precision, richness and elegance of its Champagnes.
