Description

Chanin’s Los Alamos Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 is a finely tuned expression of Santa Barbara County, where coastal freshness and plenty of sunshine create a rare balance of ripeness and lift. Sourced from one of the highest points in the vineyard, it captures both the intensity and elegance that have made California Pinot Noir so compelling in recent years.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a vibrant ruby hue that hints at its freshness and energy. The nose is layered and classic, with cherry, blackberry, rose petal, black tea, lavender, and a subtle touch of cinnamon adding warmth and complexity. The palate is supple yet precise, opening with cherry and cranberry before moving into plum, crushed red currant, mint, and spice. Bright acidity keeps everything beautifully focused, while a long, mineral finish lends the wine a refined, lingering edge. It should drink well now and continue to evolve gracefully over the next several years.

Production
Los Alamos Vineyard sits at one of the highest elevations in Santa Barbara County, where cool coastal influence moderates the warmth of the California sun. The soils, rich in chalk and sand, provide excellent drainage and help shape the wine’s tension and aromatic clarity. Gavin Chanin aged the wine for 15 months in French oak barrels, with 15% new oak, and bottled it without filtration to preserve purity and texture.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a natural match for roast duck, mushroom risotto, salmon, grilled quail, or herb-roasted chicken. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 15–16°C, and consider a brief decant if opening young to let the aromatics fully unfold.

Producer
Chanin is one of the most respected names in Santa Barbara County, known for crafting site-driven wines that highlight the character of each vineyard rather than heavy winemaking. Under Gavin Chanin, the winery has earned a strong reputation for elegant, balanced Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and is widely regarded as one of the leading modern voices in the region.
