Description

Champagne Mailly Grand Cru Brut Réserve is a refined non-vintage Champagne crafted exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards – the top tier of Champagne’s terroirs. Blending 75% Pinot Noir with 25% Chardonnay, it delivers depth, elegance and a mineral backbone that speaks clearly of its origin. This is a grower Champagne where the value is in the wine itself, rather than in marketing hype, offering Grand Cru quality at a remarkably fair price.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne shows a luminous golden-yellow hue, crowned with a persistent, fine mousse and an energetic stream of tiny bubbles. The nose opens with inviting notes of lightly toasted brioche, fresh butter and warm pastry, followed by hints of apricot, citrus zest and a touch of chalky minerality. On the palate, Mailly Grand Cru Brut Réserve is subtle yet full-flavoured, with a refined dry profile and beautifully integrated acidity. The Pinot Noir brings structure, red-fruited depth and a powerful, long finish, while the Chardonnay adds tension, freshness and precision. Flavours of stone fruit, crisp apple and citrus are layered with toast and creamy butter notes, all carried by a lively, delicate mousse. Enjoy it now for its vibrancy and complexity, or cellar for 3–6 years to gain extra roundness and brioche-driven richness.

Production
Mailly’s vineyards are located entirely in the Grand Cru village of Mailly-Champagne in the Montagne de Reims, an area famed for its chalk and limestone soils and ideal exposure for Pinot Noir. The grapes are picked by hand at optimal ripeness from carefully tended parcels, ensuring only top-quality fruit makes it into the final blend. In the cellar, the musts are vinified separately by variety and parcel, then blended to achieve a consistent house style that showcases both power and finesse. The wine undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and is aged on its lees for an extended period, building texture, creaminess and fine bubbles before disgorgement and dosage to a Brut level.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru Champagne is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with oysters, scallop carpaccio, sushi, and delicate fish dishes, as well as roast chicken, veal tartare or light truffle pasta. Its toasty notes also make it an excellent match for aged hard cheeses and buttery puff-pastry starters. Serve well chilled at 8–10°C (46–50°F). A brief 10–15 minutes in an open bottle or a quick, gentle decant into a chilled carafe can help the aromatics open up, especially if serving with food.

Producer
Founded in 1929, Champagne Mailly is a historic grower cooperative based in the Grand Cru village of Mailly-Champagne, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. Unlike many large houses that source fruit from multiple villages, Mailly works exclusively with its own Grand Cru vineyards, giving the estate a distinct and consistent identity rooted in one of Champagne’s finest terroirs. Over the decades, Mailly has built a strong reputation among sommeliers and Champagne enthusiasts for producing characterful, terroir-driven wines that punch above their weight in quality and value, with particular acclaim for the intensity and purity of its Pinot Noir-driven cuvées.
