Description
Champagne Jacquesson Cuvée 749 Extra Brut is a refined, low-dosage expression of the house’s distinctive numbered Cuvées, designed to highlight the character of each harvest rather than follow a fixed blend. Produced in Champagne from a carefully selected blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier, it combines vibrant freshness with the depth and complexity associated with Jacquesson’s traditional approach.
Tasting Notes
The wine presents a bright golden colour with a fine, persistent mousse. Its nose is layered and precise, offering citrus zest, orchard fruit, freshly baked bread and subtle mineral notes, with further complexity developing in the glass.
On the palate, Cuvée 749 is dry, energetic and elegantly structured. Lemon, green apple and pear are balanced by chalky freshness, delicate pastry and a gently savoury finish. Its firm acidity and concentration give it excellent ageing potential, while careful cellaring should allow additional brioche, nutty and honeyed nuances to emerge.
Production
Jacquesson’s numbered Cuvées are crafted to express the character of their base harvest, complemented by reserve wines for added depth and continuity. The grapes are sourced from the house’s highly regarded vineyards in Champagne, including premier and grand cru sites, where chalk-rich soils help preserve freshness and mineral definition. Traditional fermentation and extended lees ageing contribute texture and complexity, while the Extra Brut dosage keeps the finish crisp, dry and focused.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C, preferably in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass to allow the aromas to develop. Cuvée 749 is an excellent aperitif, but its structure also suits oysters, shellfish, sashimi, smoked salmon, grilled fish and roast poultry. Decanting is not essential, although a brief opening before serving can help reveal its full aromatic depth.
Producer
Founded in 1798 and based in Dizy in the Vallée de la Marne, Jacquesson is one of Champagne’s most respected independent houses. The winery is particularly known for its numbered Cuvées, which place vintage character and terroir at the centre of the blend, as well as for its meticulous vineyard work and restrained dosage. Under the stewardship of the Chiquet family, Jacquesson has earned a strong reputation among enthusiasts for producing Champagnes of precision, individuality and impressive ageing ability.
