Description

Champagne Gosset Grand Millésime Brut 2016 is a refined vintage Champagne from one of the oldest wine houses in the region, presented in an elegant gift box. Known for preserving the natural freshness of its wines by avoiding malolactic fermentation, Gosset creates Champagnes with remarkable vitality, precision and gastronomic appeal. The house dates back to 1584, when Pierre Gosset produced still wines from his vineyards in Aÿ.

Tasting Notes
The Champagne displays a bright, pale-yellow colour, signalling its freshness, with a fine and elegant mousse. The nose opens with invigorating notes of fennel, star anise and a subtle touch of menthol. As the wine warms in the glass, more generous aromas emerge, including poached pear, nougat and almond. On the palate, it is poised and beautifully fresh, revealing flavours of plum, rhubarb and crisp apple. The finish is lively and refined, with a delicate bitterness that adds length and elegance, recalling the character of fine Grand Cru fruit. With its freshness and structure, the 2016 has the balance to develop further in bottle while remaining highly approachable now.

Production
The cuvée is composed from carefully selected Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards in the Marne, with an average classification of approximately 95% on the official Échelle des Crus. Gosset takes particular care to avoid malolactic fermentation, preserving the wine’s natural malic acidity, fruit character and freshness. Following secondary fermentation, the bottles return to the cellars to rest for at least six months, and the wine is finished with a restrained dosage of 4 grams per litre.

Food & Serving
Its freshness and subtle savoury bitterness make this Champagne a versatile partner for refined dishes. Serve it with oysters, shellfish, poached fish, sushi, poultry or delicate starters featuring pear, almond or root vegetables. It can also be enjoyed with lightly matured cheeses. Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C, allowing it a few minutes in the glass to reveal its aromas. Decanting is not necessary, though serving it in a white-wine glass can help express the wine’s complexity.

Producer
Founded in Aÿ in 1584 by Pierre Gosset, a councillor and winegrower, Champagne Gosset is widely recognised as the oldest wine house in Champagne. The estate originally focused on still red wines made from grapes grown in its own vineyards before the region’s production gradually evolved towards sparkling wines during the eighteenth century. Today, Gosset remains known for its traditional, freshness-driven style and its meticulous selection of fruit from highly rated vineyards across the Marne.
