Description

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses from Domaine Mugnier Jacques-Frédéric is one of Burgundy’s most coveted expressions of Pinot Noir, combining perfume, finesse, and remarkable precision. The Les Amoureuses vineyard is legendary for its silky texture and haunting aromatics, and in the hands of one of Chambolle’s most respected domaines, it becomes a wine of exceptional pedigree and elegance.

Tasting Notes
Typically showing a luminous ruby-garnet colour, this wine is prized for its lifted bouquet of red cherries, wild strawberries, rose petals, violets, and subtle spice, often with a faint earthy nuance beneath the floral high notes. On the palate, it is refined and layered rather than powerful, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and a long, graceful finish that can reveal mineral depth and delicate savoury complexity as it opens. The 2012 vintage in Burgundy can lend added structure and focus, making this a wine that rewards patience. While it is already compelling in youth, Les Amoureuses has the concentration and balance to age beautifully for many years, developing more truffle, forest floor, and dried flower character over time.

Production
Les Amoureuses is a prized 1er Cru site in Chambolle-Musigny, known for its exceptional limestone-rich soils and excellent drainage, which help produce wines of perfume and finesse rather than weight. Domaine Mugnier Jacques-Frédéric works with a restrained, terroir-driven philosophy, aiming to preserve purity of fruit and the vineyard’s natural elegance through careful harvesting and minimal intervention in the cellar.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast duck, quail, pigeon, veal, or mushroom-based preparations, as well as delicate lamb and truffle-infused cuisine. Serve at around 15–16°C, and consider decanting briefly if the wine is youthful to allow the aromatics to unfold, though older bottles are best handled gently and opened just before serving.

Producer
Domaine Mugnier Jacques-Frédéric is one of the most admired names in Chambolle-Musigny, with a reputation for producing wines of exceptional purity, poise, and site expression. The domaine has earned high regard in Burgundy for its meticulous viticulture and elegant style, and its holdings in some of the region’s most prestigious vineyards have made it a benchmark producer for classic, finely etched Pinot Noir.
